Northumberland OPP – Threat Call Leads to Arrest for Impaired (Name Released)

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged a person with impaired operation following an initial call regarding threats.

On September 24, 2024, at approximately 9:50 p.m., OPP responded to a business premises on County Road 45 in Alderville, regarding a person who threatened staff and refused to leave the premises.

Officers arrived and located the subject of the complaint in their vehicle. Cannabis and liquor were also observed in the passenger vehicle. Upon speaking with the person, police entered into an impaired operation investigation. As a result, the individual was arrested and transported to a local detachment. The accused failed to comply with a demand to provide a sample of breath into an Approved Instrument.

Todd ROBERTSON, 44-years-old, from Colborne, has been charged with:

–      Operation while impaired – alcohol and drugs

–       Failure of refusal to comply with demand

–      Intimidation – use or threatens use of violence

–      Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm

–      Having care or control of a motor vehicle with unsealed container of liquor

–      Having care or control of a motor vehicle with liquor readily available

–      Have care or control of vehicle or boat with cannabis readily available

–      Fail to leave premises when directed.

In addition to a future court date, a further 90-day Administrative Driver Licence Suspension (ADLS) and a seven-day vehicle impound was initiated as per statute.

The OPP remind motorists that no amount of alcohol or drug is acceptable to consume and drive. Report impaired drivers. Should you observe a suspected impaired driver, please dial 911 or contact the Ontario Provincial Police at 1-888-310-1122.
