Municipality of Port Hope Calls Special Council Meeting

In City Hall

A Special Council Meeting has been scheduled for Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at 5:30 p.m. in the Council Chambers at Town Hall, 56 Queen Street, Port Hope.

At this meeting, Council and members of the public will be provided with information related to the proposed change to the Port Hope Area Initiative (PHAI) Cleanup Criterion for arsenic. Representatives from Canadian Nuclear Laboratories will give a presentation offering a high-level overview of the Human Health and Ecological Risk Assessment, along with a detailed look at the proposed changes and their potential impact.

The presentation is intended to help both Council and the public understand the broader impact of the arsenic level change to be considered by the Canadian Nuclear Safety Commission.

After this meeting, staff will present a report on this issue at the Committee of the Whole meeting on October 22, 2024. At this meeting, members of the public will have the opportunity to ask questions of Council. A final decision on supporting the arsenic level change being presented is anticipated to be made by Council on November 5, 2024.

If members of the public wish to make a deputation with respect to the content of this Special Meeting, please review the Deputation Request guidelines prior to submitting your deputation request form. If you are unable to access a computer to submit a deputation request, please contact 905-885-4544 and request to speak to a member of Clerks’ Staff for assistance. The Municipality of Port Hope encourages the participation of members of the public in the decision-making process.

The agenda for this meeting is available on our Agendas and Minutes webpage. The session is open to the public to attend and will also be live streamed on our YouTube Channel.
