A transport driver is lucky to be alive after a wheel struck the windshield of his big rig on Highway 401 in the Municipality of Port Hope on Monday, April 29, 2024.
Emergency services responded to the collision approximately one kilometre west of Toronto Road on Highway 401 at approximately 8:15 p.m.
The wheel of a vehicle travelling westbound came off and bounced over the median into the eastbound lanes.
The wheel smashed into the drivers side windsheld of the cab of the transport. The driver was able to come to an emergency stop on the shoulder of the highway.
Northumberland OPP, Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services along with Northumberland Paramedics responded to the scene.
The driver of the car was uninjured and miraculously the driver of the transport walked to the ambulance suffering from facial lacerations.
Both eastbound and westbound traffic had lanes reduced for the safety of emergency responders on scene.
The investigation is continuing.
