Northumberland OPP – Drug Charge at RIDE Checkpoint (Name Released)

Members of the Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) made an arrest during a Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere (RIDE) checkpoint.

On March 9, 2024, at approximately 11:55 p.m., Police were conducting a RIDE spot check on Division Street in Cobourg when a passenger vehicle approached and was stopped. Officers entered into an investigation which led to the seizure of approximately 12 grams of suspected cocaine.

Jacob SUTHERLAND, 18-years-old, of Cobourg, was arrested and charged with:

· Possession of a Schedule I Substance for the purpose of trafficking

· Class G1 licence holder – unaccompanied by qualified driver

· Driver fail to surrender licence.

The accused is due to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg at a future date.
