The Town of Cobourg would like to advise residents that at the request of the Mayor, flags across the Town of Cobourg will be lowered to half-staff to mark the tragedy that occurred at Canadian Forces Base Wainwright, in Alberta, on October 17, 2026.

Four members of the Canadian Armed Forces lost their lives during a fire-related training incident at CFB Wainwright. In addition, 39 Canadian Armed Forces members sustained injuries. The members killed during the training are Sergeant Morgan Wong, Private Shaun Farrell, Private Aidan Goulding, and Private Hayden Lykkemark.

“On behalf of Council and the Town of Cobourg, we extend our sincere condolences to the loved ones of the Canadian Armed Forces members who lost their lives,” said Mayor Lucas Cleveland. “We will never forget their service to Canada. We are also thinking of all those who were injured and are continuing their recovery following this incident.”

The Town will keep flags at half-staff to coincide with the Government of Canada’s observance.
