In Local

The community-led Cobourg Debates 2026 is rapidly taking shape with a Deputy Mayor and Councillor Candidates Debate set for Wednesday October 14th, followed by a Mayoral Candidates’ Debate on Thursday October 15th. Debates will be held at the Lions Club of Cobourg with doors open at 6:00 pm and the debate starting at 7:00 pm each night.

Free advance tickets by residents is now over 50 percent for both forums.

Cobourg residents are urged to get their tickets and submit questions that they would like candidates to answer during the debates at cobourgdebates2026.ca. They can also volunteer at that site and be part of presenting these non-partisan forums that belong to the community, not to any one candidate or political party.

A steering committee of volunteers from a variety of backgrounds has reached out for support from various partners. The Debate Club at Trinity College School in Port Hope is assisting with procedures to ensure the debates are run with accuracy, timeliness and fairness for all candidates.

For all information about the debates including the reasons for a citizen-led effort, debate rules, how to submit questions or volunteer, residents are invited to visit www.cobourgdebates2026.ca
