Shoplifting Charges
A 42-year-old Cobourg man faces charges after a shoplifting investigation at a local business.
On September 10, 2026, at approximately 10:15 a.m., officers responded to a report of a shoplifting incident at a business in the area of Spring Street and King Street in Cobourg. Staff reported that a man entered the store carrying a reusable shopping bag, selected merchandise, placed the items in the bag, and exited without paying.
Shortly after, officers located an individual matching the description provided. As a result of the investigation, a 42-year-old Cobourg man was arrested and charged with Theft Under $5,000 and Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000. The accused was released on an undertaking with a future court date.
Driver Charged After School Zone Enforcement
A driver faces multiple charges after being stopped during school zone enforcement in Cobourg.
On September 10, 2026, at approximately 7:15 a.m., officers conducting school zone enforcement on Elgin Street East conducted a traffic stop after observing a vehicle being operated without a front licence plate. Police determined the driver’s licence was suspended for unpaid fines.
Further, the vehicle had no valid insurance and the licence plate displayed was not authorized for the vehicle. As a result, the vehicle was impounded for seven days, and the driver was issued Part III Summonses for the following offences:
• Drive Motor Vehicle, No Currently Validated Permit
• Drive While Under Suspension
• Owner Operate Motor Vehicle on a Highway Without Insurance
• Use Plate Not Authorized for Vehicle
Cyclist Charged
A cyclist has been charged following a collision involving a motor vehicle at a Cobourg intersection.
On September 10, 2026, at approximately 2:00 p.m., police responded to a collision involving a motor vehicle and a cyclist at the intersection of Burnham Street and Elgin Street West.
Through the investigation, including witness statements, officers learned that the cyclist entered the crosswalk while riding her bicycle and was struck by a vehicle that was making a right turn on a red light. The cyclist was transported to hospital for treatment of their injuries.
As a result of the investigation, the cyclist was issued a Provincial Offence Notice and charged with Riding a Bicycle Across a Roadway Within a Crosswalk, contrary to Section 140(6) of the Highway Traffic Act.
