Video – What a Difference a Day Makes Along the Ganaraska River

In Local

What a difference a day can make when it comes to watching the annual salmon migration along the Ganaraska River in Port Hope.

On Friday afternoon, September 5, 2026, the river looked considerably quieter than it had just a day earlier. While salmon were still making their way upstream, there were far fewer fish visible from the riverbanks during the afternoon.

That’s the nature of the annual salmon run — conditions can change quickly, and what looks like a quiet day can be followed by another surge of fish moving upstream.

For those who enjoy watching the migration, there is still plenty of time to take in one of the area’s most impressive natural spectacles.

Corbett’s Dam remains a popular viewing location, and there are almost always salmon making their way through the river for visitors hoping to catch a glimpse.

The run is far from over, meaning another day along the Ganaraska River could bring a very different scene.

Sometimes, when it comes to the salmon run, you just have to come back tomorrow.
