Philip Lawrence, Member of Parliament for Northumberland—Clarke, released the following statement regarding the new Conservative Shadow Cabinet announced today:
“I am honoured to take on the role of Shadow Minister for International Development.
“Under the previous Conservative government, Canada enjoyed a strong and respected reputation on the world stage, one defined by principle, reliability, and generosity.
“Unfortunately, that reputation has been damaged by years of Liberal waste, bureaucratic buildup, and international development spending that has too often been driven by political and ideological priorities rather than Canada’s national interests.
“It’s time to cut the waste and restore Canada’s standing as a principled and effective leader on the world stage. I look forward to holding the government to account on this important file.
“I am also grateful for the opportunity to have served as Shadow Minister for Intergovernmental Affairs and One Canadian Economy, Inter-Provincial Trade. I was proud to play a role in the passage of Bill C-5, the One Canadian Economy Act, and hold the government accountable on their promise to deliver free trade in Canada.”
