Northumberland OPP – Appealing for Witnesses Regarding Serious Collision on Highway 401

In Police Blotter

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) is investigating a serious collision on Highway 401 and are appealing for witnesses to come forward.

On Saturday, May 30, 2026, at approximately 11:00 a.m., police, Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the fire department were dispatched to a report of a two-vehicle collision on Highway 401 eastbound near the service center in the Municipality of Port Hope.

It is believed that one of the involved vehicles was parked on the shoulder when its driver exited the vehicle. During the incident, the parked vehicle was struck by another vehicle, and the motorist who had exited was also struck.

Highway 401 eastbound was closed at Newtownville for the investigation, with assistance from the OPP Traffic Incident Management & Enforcement (TIME) team. All lanes reopened at around 3:30 p.m. on May 31, 2026.

The investigation is ongoing. Anyone who may have witnessed the collision or has dashcam footage from the area at the time of the incident is asked to contact the OPP at 1-888-310-1122.
