Video – York Region Police Arrest Two Suspects in Relation to Distraction Thefts

Two suspects are facing charges in relation to distraction thefts in Markham.

Officers with York Region 5 District Criminal Investigation Bureau (Markham) conducted an arrest of two suspects related to an ongoing series of distraction thefts on Thursday, May 21, 2026.

A number of officers from York Regional Police were following the suspects when they exited at Cobourg from Highway 401.

After turning into a parking lot off Strathy Road, York Region Police along with Northumberland OPP stopped the vehicle and two people were taken into custody.

Two suspects have been charged in relation to three incidents.

Both suspects, one male, one female, are facing charges of theft under $5000.

Cobourg Police also assisted with the incident.
