In Local, Police Blotter

The Office of the Fire Marshal and Northumberland OPP Crime Unit are investigating after a suspicious fire in the Municipality of Port Hope on Monday, May 11, 2026.

Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services Chief Jason Williams said crews responded to 1974 County Road 2, just east of County Road 65, for reports of a structure fire at approximately 8:20 a.m.

When firefighters arrived, flames were coming from the front of the home.

“There was fire venting from the main floor. Our folks did forced entry and suppressed the fire at that time,” said Williams.

County Road 2 in the area was temporarily shut down due to the heavy smoke and fire apparatus shuttling water to the scene.

No one was home at the time of the fire and there were no injuries reported.

The home was destroyed in the blaze.
