Video – Opening Day of Trout Season Draws Anglers to the Ganaraska River

Opening day of trout season drew eager anglers across the region on Saturday, April 25, 2026, with many arriving early — or not leaving at all.

Campers, tents and vehicles lined parking lots and rural roads near local creeks as fishing enthusiasts settled in for the long-awaited start of the season at 12:01 a.m. on Saturday.

In Port Hope, the Ganaraska River — affectionately known as the “Ganny” — saw a steady turnout of anglers casting their lines throughout the day. While water levels remained somewhat high and success appeared limited for many, a handful of fishermen managed to reel in catches and head home satisfied after opening day.
