WSIB – Cobourg Police Goes From One of the Worst in the Province to One of the Best

Not so long ago, the number of Cobourg Police Service members off on disability was cause for concern.

Reporting at this week’s Cobourg Police Services Board meeting, Chief Paul VandeGraaf said enormous progress has been made with only one member off on WSIB, compared to 2019 – when the service’s 13 members off on WSIB made it “one of the worst in the province per capita, and now being one of the best – these are fantastic numbers.”

VandeGraaf credits the force’s reintegration process, which takes a more aggressive return-to-work approach and a stronger advocacy position.

As for the one remaining, he predicted, “that one will come back to work in the next couple of months.

“We are really excited for that also, to bring that to zero.”

The news came as part of VandeGraaf’s Human Resources and Administration Report, which also included the good news of three approved grants – RIDE ($45,508),Victim Support ($292,447.19) and Mobile Crisis Response Team ($240,000).
