Northumberland OPP – Intimate Partner Violence Investigation Leads to Charges

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has laid charges against an individual following an investigation into intimate partner violence.

On February 2, 2026, officers received a report regarding a domestic incident that was in progress at a location in Hamilton Township.

As a result of the investigation, a suspect was taken into custody.

A 44-year-old male, from Hamilton Township, has been charged with:

– Assault cause bodily harm – choke, suffocate or strangle – 2 counts

The accused is who shall not be named to protect the identity of the victim, was held in custody for a bail hearing but has since been released with conditions and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg on a later date.
