Northumberland County Extends Warming Room Weekend Hours During Extreme Cold

In response to an extreme cold weather forecast, Northumberland County, in collaboration with the Town of Cobourg By-law Services, is extending the operating hours of the overnight Warming Room located at 555 Courthouse Road.

Beginning at 4:00 p.m. on Friday, January 23, the Warming Room will remain open continuously until 8:00 a.m. on Monday, providing vulnerable residents with uninterrupted access to a warm, safe indoor space throughout the weekend.

Lakelands Public Health has issued a Cold Warning for Northumberland County effective Saturday, January 24th to Sunday, January 25th.

Northumberland County is taking proactive steps to ensure individuals have access to warmth and essential support during this period of dangerous cold. The County’s priority remains safeguarding the health, safety, and dignity of residents experiencing homelessness.

Located in Committee Room A at Northumberland County Headquarters, the Warming Room offers rest areas, washrooms, seating, and light refreshments to support visitor safety and well-being.

In addition, The Town of Cobourg has opened temporary respite locations in response to the Cold Warning. For more information visit Cobourg.ca

Individuals seeking emergency shelter are encouraged to access designated shelter services at 310 Division Street.
