Northumberland OPP – Warkworth Inmate Facing Drug Charges

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) has charged another individual following an investigation into drugs at a correctional facility.

On October 3, 2025, police received a report after approximately 15 grams of suspected illicit drugs were seized by a Correctional Officer in a cell area.

Following an investigation, a warrant was issued, and on January 8, 2026, another individual was charged.

A 35-year-old inmate at Warkworth Institution, has been charged with:

– Possession of a Schedule I substance for the purpose of trafficking – methamphetamine

The accused was held to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Cobourg.

The OPP and Correctional Service Canada (CSC) work in close partnership to maintain the safety and security of correctional institutions and surrounding communities. This collaboration includes proactive measures to prevent the introduction of contraband, thorough investigations when incidents occur, and enforcement of applicable laws. Together, CSC and the OPP are committed to protecting staff, inmates, and the public by addressing activities that threaten institutional safety, including the trafficking of illicit substances.
