First Baby of the New Year Born at Northumberland Hills Hospital

Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) has welcomed its first baby of the new year! Born to Hayley
Boivin and Nate Hladysh of Port Hope, Ontario, the baby girl—named Emma — and was born at 12:02 a.m., weighing 6 pounds 7 ounces (2920 grams), and 19 inches (49 cm) long. She is the first child for Hayley and Nate.

“We thought she would be born earlier, but as the day went on, we thought maybe she will be a New Year baby. She just made it into the new year! We are excited, happy, and a bit overwhelmed,” said Hayley.

“We want to thank Dr. Awad and Dr. Smith, the aestheticist Dr. Radonich, and the nurses, Alyssa, Tori
and Kristen for all of their care and attentiveness.”

As per hospital tradition, baby Emma will go home from NHH with a gift basket prepared and donated by the staff and volunteers of the hospital. Members of the Maternal/Child Care team took the initiative to hand-pick items they felt new parents would appreciate and enjoy. With support from NHH, the NHH
Foundation, and the NHH Auxiliary, a personalized gift basket was presented to Hayley and Nate.

“Thank you to everyone at NHH for the wonderful gift basket. What a lovely surprise. We are overwhelmed by the generosity and kindness,” said Hayley.

The Maternal/Child Care team at NHH supported more than 500 births at the hospital in the last fiscal year, thanks to a strong partnership with local obstetrician-gynecologists, family physicians, anesthesiologists, and area midwives.

Designed with the unique needs of newborns, their mothers and family members in mind, NHH’s Maternal/Child Care unit is equipped with six labour and delivery beds, each in their own private suite, a Caesarean-section operating room, and advanced fetal and patient monitoring. New in January 2026, is a Newborn, Perinatal and Reproductive Care Clinic (NPR) that will provide inhospital, non-urgent ambulatory services to support women’s wellness and newborn health in the antenatal and postpartum phases of care for patients across Northumberland County. Further details will be shared in the coming
weeks on our website.
