Local Paramedic Union of Northumberland County Posts About Emergency Department Delays at NHH

In Local

OPSEU Local 381 of the Professional Paramedics of Northumberland County posted on Monday, December 22, 2025 concerning emergency room delays at Northumberland Hills Hospital.

The social media post stated, “expect delays today in response times of paramedics today. Local hospitals are experiencing high volumes of admissions in the ER. Paramedic crews are experiencing offload times up to 6 hours. During this time patients stay on the paramedic stretchers, making them unable to respond to emergencies in the public.”

Shortly before 11 p.m. the Emergency Department Dashboard website for Northumberland Hills Hospital said the estimated wait time to see a “provider” was over five hours.

· 28 patients waiting to see a “provider”

· 8 patients waiting for an inpatient bed

· 46 patients currently in the emergency department
