Suspect Facing a Number of Drug Charges Has Died While in Custody

A suspect facing a number of criminal charges has died while in custody.

Thirty-nine-year-old Cory Keers was arrested on November 13, 2025 following a investigation into drug trafficking in Cobourg.

Keers and a co-accused were charged with several criminal offences as a result of the investigation which seized approximately $320,000 of illegal drugs.

Keers faced additional charges including:

Possession for the purpose of trafficking schedule I substance – morphine contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Possession for the purpose of trafficking schedule I substance – oxycodone contrary to section 5(2) of the Controlled Drugs and Substances Act

Possession for the purpose of trafficking schedule III substance – psilocybin contrary to section.

Since his charges, Keers was being held at the Central East Corrections Centre in Lindsay.

The obituary states that Keers died suddenly at Ross Memorial Hospital in Lindsay on Thursday November 20th, 2025.

Today’s Northumberland has learned that Keers had a medical emergency while in custody and was rushed to hospital but passed away.

Today’s Northumberland has also reached out several times to media contacts Minister’s Office Jack

Fazzari and Attorney General communications branch Keesha Seaton to ask about any investigation concerning Keer’s death.

After several e-mails and phone calls neither Fazzari or Seaton has responded.
