Video – Chaos on the Road for Emergency Services East of Cobourg

In Local, Police Blotter

Emergency services were kept busy east of Cobourg on Thursday November 20, 2025.

Shortly before 1 p.m. Cramahe Fire Department were dispatched to a Tesla on fire each of Colborne on Highway 401.

Highway 401 was shut down in the area due to the thick black smoke. Because it was an electric vehicle firefighters knocked down the main portion of the fire then placed a fire blanket over the vehicle.

It’s believed a large rachet strap from a flatbed transport fell onto the highway and struck the battery of the Tesla.

At approximately 1:50 p.m. emergency services were dispatched to the area of the Highway 401 and County Road 25 after a tractor trailer slammed into the back of another tractor trailer that was stopped due to traffic build-up because of the vehicle fire.

Neither driver was seriously hurt.

At approximately 3:40 p.m. emergency services including Alnwick/Haldimand Fire Department and Northumberland OPP responded to Lyle Street just north of Aird Street after a boom (crane) truck struck hydro lines snapping two poles.

Lyle Street is closed in the area and Hydro One said its estimated nearly 1,500 people will be without power until at least 1 a.m. for repairs to take place.

During that incident, a southbound transport truck drove into the ditch and became stuck.

And lastly, at approximately 5:30 p.m. emergency services were dispatched to another two vehicle collision east of Grafton.

It’s unknown if there were any injuries.
