In Local, Police Blotter

There has been no release from Cobourg Police concerning an incident involving Cobourg Mayor Lucas Cleveland.

Late in the evening on Wednesday, October 23, 2025 a witness told Today’s Northumberland they saw a person yelling at the Mayor outside of Victoria Hall at approximately 11 p.m.

At one point a security guard was standing near the Mayor, but went inside shortly after the altercation took place.

The person was shouting so loud at the mayor it echoed down King Street.

During the incident, Councillor Adam Bureau approached from Second Street and got in between the individual and the Mayor appearing to try and calm the person down.

The individual had a wagon and a number of items with him.

A short time later, three police cruisers arrived in front of Victoria Hall and took the individual into custody placing him into the back seat of the police cruiser.

Today’s Northumberland has reached out to the Mayor and Councillor Bureau who is also Chair of the Police Services Board for comment.

“I do not discuss issues about my personal security in the public,” stated Cleveland.

There was no response from Bureau.

Today’s Northumberland has sent a e-mail to the Cobourg Police Service asking for details.
