No news came out of Thursday’s meeting of Cobourg’s Corporate, Finance and Legislative standing committee because it was cancelled due to the lack of a quorum.
Committee chair Nicole Beatty appeared at the 1 p.m. meeting. At 1:15 p.m., still the only committee member to appear, she said, as per procedural bylaw, she had been waiting for attendance to achieve quorum – which was not reached so she could not call it to order and the meeting wouldn’t be moving forward.
Beatty said that Councillor Randy Barber had sent his regrets for missing the meeting “a few days ago” due to a trip to Washington, D.C.
The meeting could still have proceeded with Beatty and the other committee member, Mayor Lucas Cleveland, but she said the mayor had just sent his regrets “due to an emergency at the County.”
The county council meeting schedule showed no meetings were slated. And asked the nature of the “emergency,” Director of Communications and Information Technology Kate Campbell said county staff were not involved in any current emergencies, and she was not aware what the mayor might have been referring to.
Beatty noted that every agenda item would move to the regular council meeting agenda on Oct. 29 under Items for Consideration.
