Municipality of Port Hope Director of Corporate Services “Terminated Without Cause”

In Local

In a social media post former Director of Corporate Services with the Municipality of Port Hope, Brian Gilmer stated he was “terminated without cause.”
The social media post was dated September 23 and linked two images of Gilmer’s comment.
Below is the statement from Gilmer about his termination.

“August 24 marked 10 years working for my hometown as Director, Corporate Services with the Municipality of Port Hope. I served as Clerk through most of that time, working alongside multiple terms of Council through challenges, successes, and everything in between. It’s been an honour and a privilege l’ve never taken for granted.

On September 10 l was terminated without cause.

Leaving a role and a team I loved was unexpected and incredibly disappointing. I’ve worked for other municipalities throughout the province, but I was raised here in a family that loves this community. Working to better it, in whatever way I could, was always more than just a job to me. I’ve raised my family here and this community’s future is important to me. I love Port Hope, and I have loved serving my community this way.

I don’t often post publicly but thought I needed to share this news. Additionally, while I packed up my office this morning, I could not help but feel grateful to have worked alongside some amazing colleagues whose work does not get the public recognition it deserves. At the local level, staff serve with humility, expertise, and integrity in delivering important services that matter to residents.

I will miss my team most of all. You are the best. Don’t forget it. I’m proud of what we accomplished together, and I’m excited to carry those lessons and experiences forward into whatever comes next.

Today’s Northumberland reached out to Kate Ingram, Manager of Communications with the Municipality who stated, “The Municipality will not be issuing a communication or comment regarding Mr. Gilmer.”
