SIU Investigating Collision in Alnwick/Haldimand Township

The province’s Special Investigations Unit is investigating the circumstances surrounding a collision that resulted in the serious injury of a 25-year-old man early this morning north of Cobourg.

Preliminary information suggests the following:

At approximately 12:20 a.m. on July 1, 2025, an Ontario Provincial Police officer in a marked cruiser attempted to pull over the driver of a black SUV travelling northbound on Highway 45 for speeding.

A short time later, the SUV was involved in a single vehicle collision.

The male driver was transferred to a Toronto hospital for treatment of serious injuries.

One investigator, two forensic investigators and a collision reconstructionist have been assigned to the case. One subject official and two witness officials have been designated at this time.
