Cobourg Deputy Mayor Makes Statement Regarding Homelessness

In City Hall, Local

I care deeply about building a safe and caring community. This is something we all want. I truly believe that.

At the recent Town Hall, I heard frustration—but I also heard compassion. I heard people calling on elected officials, service providers, and community leaders to come together with real, impactful solutions. That’s what we need to focus on—using our energy, our platforms, and our resources to work towards solutions and policy shifts that support accessible services for care for our most vulnerable populations and strategies that create safe streets.

We need to stop hurting our community with words and begin healing – and moving forward with actionable change.

I’m sharing this statement as a member of the Cobourg Police Services Board. Chair Adam Bureau released the following statement but I want to highlight the following closing paragraphs:

“The Board and the Service fully recognize the ongoing and complex challenges Cobourg is facing—and those that lie ahead. The Board and the Service remain committed to listening to concerns, analyzing trends, and making adjustments as needed, always grounded in facts, evidence, and respect for all members of our community.

We encourage residents, business owners, and elected officials alike to reject divisive or inflammatory rhetoric. Let us instead come together around a shared goal: a safe, inclusive Cobourg where dignity, civility, and the rule of law guide our actions and our partnerships.”
