Five Counties Children’s Centre reports that the Cobourg and Port Hope McHappy Days raised more than $29,000 from McDonald’s customers in support of life-changing services for local children in need of treatment and support.

This is the second consecutive year local McDonald’s locations have named Five Counties as the beneficiary of their McHappy Days, an annual event where the restaurant supports a designated children’s charity by collecting donations and dedicating a portion of sales. On this day, the lion’s share of the proceeds support the local charity, with a portion going to Ronald McDonald House Charities (which provides a place for out-of-town families to stay while their children undergo treatment in hospital).

Of the $29,000 raised, Five Counties will take in $21,750, with about $7,250 supporting Ronald McDonald House Charities.

Cobourg and Port Hope McDonald’s owner-operator Lisa Wilson always looks forward to McHappy Days.

“Residents in Northumberland County are very generous, and this shines through with their continued support for two important charities, Five Counties and Ronald McDonald House,” Wilson said in the announcement.

“McHappy Day creates an opportunity to interact and engage with the community, while witnessing the amazing support and enthusiasm that the day generates,” added Five Counties Chief Executive Officer Scott Pepin.

“We had wonderful support from our staff, volunteers, kids, families, partners and supporters on McHappy Day. We also want to thank Lisa and her entire team at McDonald’s for again selecting Five Counties to be the local charity to benefit from McHappy Day. The McDonald’s team members were gracious and enthusiastic hosts for the event.”

Five Counties also thanks the many supporters and organizations that came out to assist on McHappy Day, including Five Counties families, staff, board members and volunteers, as well as representatives from Cobourg and Port Hope Police Services, Cobourg and Port Hope Fire Departments, Trinity College School, Cobourg Lions Club, local high schools and many local residents.
