Just a reminder, residents of Prince Edward County may notice an increased police presence today, May 12th, in and around the area of County Road 10 in Picton throughout the day. Officers with Belleville Police and OPP will be conducting training exercises in the area. Residents may see or hear officers utilizing training weapons and equipment, however, there is no risk to the community throughout this time. Officers would like to thank the community for their understanding during this time.
Weapons Call
Belleville, ON – On Thursday, May 9, 2025, at approximately 3:15 p.m., a member of the Belleville Police Service responded to a report of three young males acting suspiciously behind a convenience store in the city’s west hill area.
Upon arrival, an officer located the individuals and began questioning them regarding their activities. During the interaction, one of the males was observed to have an object concealed in the front of his pants, underneath his sweater. When the officer conducted a pat-down for officer safety, he felt a hard object consistent with the shape of a handgun. The officers grabbed the weapon, which was confirmed to be a loaded 9mm pistol.
At that time, all three males fled the scene on foot in different directions. An extensive search of the surrounding area was conducted with the assistance of additional officers; however, the suspects were not located.
The Belleville Police Service is actively investigating this incident and is working to identify the individuals involved. Officers are reviewing surveillance footage from nearby cameras and throughout the city as part of the investigation.

Breach of Probation
On May 11, 2025, just after 9am, Belleville Police Service received a call for service regarding a male and female loitering in a pathway near Frank St. Shortly after officers arrived on scene, officers confirmed the 40-year-old male of Belleville was currently bound by a probation order to not be around the female subject. The male was subsequently arrested and charged with breach of probation. He was held for a bail hearing and will appear in court May 12, 2025.
Fail to Comply with Court Order
On the May 11, 2025, at 12:58am, Belleville Police were dispatched to Assist Montreal Police in locating a woman who had escaped a Psychiatric Facility in Montreal. Belleville Police were able to locate her at an east end business and apprehended her for further assessment under the Mental Health Act. Once cleared, the 62-year-old female was arrested for Montreal Police for Failing to Comply with a Court Order. She was held until in custody with the Belleville Police until the Montreal Police were able to arrange transport the later that morning.
Weapons, Possession for Trafficking, Resist Arrest, Personation & Flight from Police
On the April 24, 2025, a Black Nissan KICKS rental vehicle had taken flight from police when a traffic stop was attempted. The vehicle did not stop, but a suspect description was acquired. Two days later at 3:15am on the 26th of April, D Platoon officers were proactively patrolling the downtown core when they came across the same Nissan KICKS vehicle occupied with 2 males in a parking lot. Officers blocked the vehicle in with their cruisers and investigated. Open alcohol was observed and during the interaction, the driver attempted to run from police and resisted arrest. A quantity of cocaine, packaging, and a BB gun was recovered from this investigation.
A 28-year-old male form Marmora (Driver) was charged with Flight from Police, Resist Arrest, Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, Weapons Dangerous and other Provincial Offence Act Charges. He was later released on an Undertaking with strict driving, drug, weapon and curfew conditions.
The passenger was arrested for Possession of a Schedule 1 Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking, and Weapons Dangerous, along with an outstanding warrant. The passenger’s name cannot be released due to the domestic nature of the warrant.
Several hours following the driver’s release, Belleville Police responded to an assault call in the city’s east end. The 28-year-old male from Marmora was again arrested and charged for assault. He was held for a bail on the 27th of April 2025.
A subsequent investigation revealed that the 28-year-old Marmora male had obstructed police by impersonating a family member who did not have a criminal record. The male had now been positively identified as 28-year-old Jayson DOW-WEST. He was found to be on a Conditional Sentence Order, breaching numerous conditions. As a result of the investigation, police have charged 28-year-old Jayson DOW-WEST with the following additional charges: 2 x Obstruct Police, 2 x Personation with Intent, and an Allegation of Breach of Conditional Sentence Order was made (Breach of 5 Conditions). DOW-WEST remains in custody.
