Brighton Prepares to Introduce Automated Speed Enforcement Program to Increase Traffic Safety

In Local

To improve public safety and protect vulnerable road users in community safety zones and school zones, the Municipality of Brighton will introduce its Automated Speed Enforcement (ASE) program with a 90-day notification period starting April 15, 2025. During this period, vehicles travelling above the posted speed limit in the School Zone along Elizabeth Street will not be issued a citation.

In April 2024, “Municipal Speed Camera Coming Soon” signs were installed in the School Zone to provide advance notice to the community.

On July 14, 2025, a “Camera in Use” sign will be installed to inform motorists that the camera is now active. The automated system will capture and record the rate of speed the motor vehicle is travelling in the School Zone along Elizabeth Street, and will automatically issue tickets to the registered plate holder of the vehicle regardless of who was driving. Demerit points will not be applied. The letter of citation will be mailed to the registered vehicle owner.

The Automated Speed Enforcement program aligns with the Municipality of Brighton’s strategic goal of enhancing public safety by creating safe and comfortable streets for everyone on or near Municipality of Brighton roadways.

For more information about the Automated Speed Enforcement program, please visit our website, or phone the Municipal Office (613) 475 – 0670 ext. 208.
