It’s unknown the amount of damage after a structure fire at a Port Hope factory on Wednesday, April 9, 2025.

At approximately 2 p.m. AkzoNobel employees spotted a fire in the building located on Rose Glen Road.

Abbey Reding who is Communications and Public Affairs – North America for the company said, “AkzoNobel employees immediately contacted local emergency services, and fire response personnel were on site within minutes. We are working with local emergency response officials at this time as safety is our first priority. Employees located at the impacted facility were immediately evacuated, and there are no reported injuries at this time. We will report back with an update later this evening as we learn more.”

When Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services arrived, flames were coming from the rear of the building.
An aerial platform truck was set up to douse the flames from above.

Fire Departments from Cameco, Hamilton Township and Cobourg were also called for assistance to the fire.

Paramedics and police were on standby.

There are 45 employees at the location, but not all of them were on site when the fire occurred.

By 7 p.m. fire crews were still on site.

Today’s Northumberland will provide updates when available.
