Polar Plunge Fundraising Event Still a Success Despite Being Cancelled

In Local, Police Blotter

The Northumberland Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) and Brighton Fire/Rescue, were scheduled to host a polar plunge event for Special Olympics Ontario on Sunday March 30, 2025. With the freezing rain that occurred in our area Saturday through Sunday, the event was unfortunately cancelled without the option to reschedule.

Despite the event’s cancellation, organizers confirm that the fundraising efforts of the 34 registered participants, along with public and corporate donations from local businesses, successfully raised almost $6,500 for Special Olympics Ontario.

A large percentage of the funds will stay within this area to support our local Special Olympic Athletes. This action speaks volumes and reflects on just how committed this municipality is to be continuing to build a more understanding, accepting and inclusive community.

The Northumberland OPP and Brighton Fire/Rescue would like to sincerely thank everyone who was involved in making this year’s fundraiser such a success. Together we were able to raise awareness and show our support to these resilient athletes that inspire us with their courage, dedication and perseveration, regardless of the challenges they face.
