A special presentation was held at the Cobourg Community Centre on Friday, March 28, 2025 before a charity hockey game took place.

The Northumberland Old Puckers raised $3,000 in support of Ed’s House Northumberland Hospice Care Centre.

The team of seasoned athletes range in age from 60-83-years old lace up their skates every Friday at the CCC.

Bob Pitcher who is a member of the Old Puckers, said, “they are a group of players that love hockey.”

Pitcher said the charity game started last year when Peter Godwin brought up the idea.

Godwin has a personal connection to Ed’s House and the game was so popular, the Old Puckers decided to have the second annual game.

Ed’s House is named after Ed Lorenz. Lorenz and his wife Diane donated $1.5 million for the hospice centre that was named in his honour.

A member of the Old Puckers is Lorenz’s son, Peter who comes out every week.

“My parents started Ed’s House and it’s been a great facility for people to use and the staff there are wonderful and I’d like to thank these guys for donating to the cause.”

Joel Scott, who is Director of Donor Relations and Communications added the donation is greatly appreciated from the players.

“There’s a personal connection for some of the players. One of them had his father at Ed’s House in January. It’s amazing to see these guys get out, be active, support the community and support Ed’s House at the same time.”
