It’s not over yet- but for the most part, Northumberland County was spared major damage that other areas didn’t.
On Sunday, March 30, 2025 the City of Peterborough declared a state of emergency relating to the ice storm.
The state of emergency was to support recover efforts related to the ice storm.
There are still thousands without power in Northumberland County as of 3 p.m. on Sunday, but the hardest hit areas locally seemed to be north of the lakeshore.
Cramahe, Trent Hills, Hamilton Township and the rural area of Port Hope with numerous trees down due to ice accumulating on the trees.
Some houses and vehicles were damaged by falling trees, roads were blocked by downed power lines, trees and branches, but it could have been much worse had the temperature dropped a few more degrees.
Emergency services in all townships were busy with power outages and downed power lines starting on Saturday night.
Work crews from across Northumberland County did their best to keep up with fallen trees across the roads.
It seems like Hydro One and Lakefront Utilities crews will be busy over the next several days restoring power.
By daybreak on Sunday well traveled roads were throughout the area were clear. Side roads were still being cleared of debris.
Trees are still toppled over onto hydro wires in areas of the County while some driveways were blocked with fallen trees.
A tree toppled onto a house in Gores Landing, but it appears there wasn’t major damage.
In Northumberland County, Cobourg and Port Hope received power outages.
Lakefront Utilities provided an update:
Lakefront crews are working 24/7 to restore power after the severe ice storm caused significant damage, in Colborne and Cobourg. Hydro One is also working hard to restore loss of supply to affected Colborne areas. Stay safe — watch for falling ice from power lines, avoid downed wires, and limit travel on hazardous roads. We’re incredibly grateful for our dedicated crews and all line workers across the province working through these tough conditions.
The Hydro One loss of supply from the M16 feeder in Colborne is ongoing and restoration of power is estimated to be 2-3 hours. We will keep you updated as soon more updates become available. Thank you for your ongoing patience
