Emergency services have released more information concerning a “suspicious package” at the Cobourg Community Centre on Wednesday, February 13, 2025.

Cobourg Police issued a release at 4:50 p.m. on Wednesday stating that police along with the Cobourg Fire Department responded to the Cobourg Community Centre for a report of a suspicious package.
The community centre was evacuated and Today’s Northumberland has confirmed that neighbouring buildings were also evacuated.

Numerous police vehicles were on scene and D’Arcy Street in the area of the community centre was blocked off to pedestrians and vehicles.

Cobourg Fire Department responded with what is known as a “station call” which means only the firefighters that were working responded.

Northumberland County Paramedics were notified of the incident and staged at a safe distance away.
Cobourg Police stated to Today’s Northumberland that police reviewed CCTV footage and consulted with the OPP Explosives Disposal Unit.

“It was confirmed that the package was a rechargeable battery pack left behind by a group of youths.”

Adam Bureau who is Chair of the Cobourg Police Services Board stated, “I would like to take this opportunity to commend the remarkable efforts of the Cobourg Police and Cobourg Fire departments. Their dedication and hard work in ensuring the safety of everyone are truly commendable. We’re grateful for their commitment to keeping our community secure and protected.”
