31st Annual Light Up a Life Fundraising Campaign Ends on a High Note for NHH

In Local

Northumberland Hills Hospital (NHH) Foundation is proud to announce its 2024 Light Up A Life Campaign has come to an end raising an amazing $336,918. This impressive result is further proof of the incredible community that stands with this Hospital.

With the campaign now complete, the Hospital will proceed with ordering two hematology analyzers for the lab to replace the existing 15-year-old equipment.

This crucial equipment performs blood counts for hemoglobin, red and white blood cells, and platelet counts – testing that provides critical information to a patient’s care team to help determine what is happening in their body.

This testing is used for diagnosis of anemia, infections, inflammation, blood loss, blood cancers, and other blood-related disorders. In addition to supporting many diagnoses, it is also used before every single chemotherapy treatment to ensure a cancer patient’s blood counts are high enough to safely proceed with chemotherapy.

“I am blown away by the generous response of the Northumberland community. The support for
our laboratory to ensure we can continue to provide excellent, cutting-edge service is overwhelming. It feels like family rallying around another member to make sure we’re successful in our mission,” shares Dr. Katie O’Reilly, a pathologist at NHH and this year’s Campaign Chair.

“I am so honoured to work amongst such support and concern for the health of our community,”
she continues. “Thank you to absolutely everyone who had a hand in making this new equipment possible.”

First launched in 1994, the Light Up a Life campaign has raised over $4.3 million.
