Cobourg Police – Wraps Up Festive RIDE

From November 29, 2024, to January 2, 2025, Cobourg Police Service (CPS) held Festive RIDE (Reducing Impaired Driving Everywhere) programs throughout the Town of Cobourg. The campaign
aimed to raise awareness regarding impaired driving and ensure motorists were driving sober.

During the Festive RIDE programs, police checked 750 vehicles and issued numerous Highway Traffic Act warnings and charges, including administering three Approved Screening Devices that led to two three-day suspensions.

Three impaired arrests were made outside of RIDE check nights during the campaign, and three
impaired arrests have been made since Festive RIDE ended.

“Since the Festive RIDE ended, officers have made three impaired driving arrests. This is not a good start to 2025,” said Chief Paul VandeGraaf, Cobourg Police Service. “We will increase enforcement to ensure impaired drivers are held accountable.”

CPS reminds motorists that keeping roads safe is everyone’s responsibility. Please make the conscious decision to drive sober, make a plan to get home safe, and always report suspected impaired driving by calling 9-1-1.
