Escape and recapture of an Inmate from Beaver Creek Institution – Minimum-Security Unit

On January 5, 2025, during the 6:30 p.m. count, staff members in the minimum-security unit at Beaver Creek Institution discovered that Jamesie Kownirk was not accounted for.

The Correctional Service of Canada (CSC) immediately contacted the Ontario Provincial Police, and a warrant for the inmate’s arrest was issued.

At around 10:00 p.m., Jamesie Kownirk was apprehended by police. CSC will investigate the circumstances of this incident.
