City of Belleville Names New City Clerk

The City of Belleville is pleased to announce the appointment of Doug Irwin as city clerk.

Doug has over 30 years of experience in the public sector, with a focus on leading in the clerk’s office. In his current role as director of legislative services/clerk at the Municipality of Trent Hills, he oversees the operation of the clerk’s office and IT. Prior to this, Doug served as the director of legislative services/clerk at the Township of Oro-Medonte where he led the operations of the clerk’s office, municipal law enforcement and IT. As a municipal clerk, Doug has extensive experience in leading municipal elections, corporate records management and developing by-laws. He also has experience acting as the commissioner of oaths and affidavits as a licensing and signing officer.

Doug will begin his new position effective Jan. 6.

“We are very pleased to be filling this role with such an experienced candidate,” said Director of People and Corporate Services Marie Doherty. “With his experience in legislative services, corporate records and management, we know he will be an asset to our department and the City as a whole. I would like to thank Deputy Clerk, Katy Macpherson, for standing in over the past several months and can’t wait to see what the future holds for this team moving forward.”

“I am excited to be joining the City of Belleville in the new year,” said Doug Irwin. “I am hopeful that my experience in the municipal sector will allow me to transition into this new role smoothly and I look forward to working with the Belleville team.”
