Cobourg Police – Few Details Being Released Concerning Daytime Theft from Shoppers Drug Mart

Cobourg Police are releasing few details concerning a large daytime theft at a downtown business on Sunday, December 1, 2024.

Today’s Northumberland has learned two persons entered Shoppers Drug Mart across from the Cobourg Police station shortly after 4 p.m. and were wearing masks.

The suspects stole a large quantity of cosmetics that were worth approximately $2,000 from the store in front of customers.

Reaching out to Cobourg Police, communications manager Lisa Munday stated, “the investigation is ongoing. Any relevant updates will be sent out as required.”

In a similar type of crime, Peterborough Police Service announced at a press conference on Tuesday, December 3, 2024 that three people from the Toronto area are facing theft charges in relation $11,500 worth of products taken from several different stores in Peterborough on November 27, 2024.

“This is a sophisticated organized theft ring. They’ve been to similar stores in Oshawa, Bowmanville and Cobourg,” said Chief of Police Stu Betts.

The group is operating across the province and are located in the greater Toronto area.

Betts said that earlier in the year, Peterborough Police were involved in thefts from Shoppers Drug Mart store in Peterborough.

“In all cases, our investigators have connected with police services from across the province to alert them to the fact that we have arrested these individuals.”

Betts said that, “property crimes are a priority in our organization and in our city.”

On Monday in Belleville, two suspects made off with approximately $4,000 worth of plumbing supplies.
