Cobourg Anxiously Waits to Find Out If Brookside Has Been Sold

In Local

There are only hours left before Cobourg residents find out if the Brookside property has been sold.

There has been no information that has come forward other than when Northumberland-Peterborough South MPP David Piccini announced at Cobourg Council on September 25, 2024.

“My understanding is that closing conditions are November 13,” Piccini replied to a question by councillor Adam Bureau.

Since then, there has been not a peep.

Previously Piccini has stated in June 2024 there were “multiple” offers with one preferred offer being negotiated by Infrastructure Ontario on the 30 acre property located at 390 King Street East that was listed for $9,100,000.

The former MTO property located at 138 Hope Street North has also been for sale at a price of $3,900,000 for the 14-acre property.

Both properties were listed for sale by Infrastructure Ontario on since February 8, 2024

“We’re in a very good position with Infrastructure Ontario and the reality directive to exercise the sale of those properties.”

The status on the Infrastructure Ontario site on Tuesday, November 12 stated that both the property in Cobourg and Port Hope are still “listed on the open market.

The former Brookside property in Cobourg has Brook Creek which flows through the east portion of the site from north to south, crossing the security fence at the north and south locations. The site is surrounded by residential land uses to the north, and a mix of residential and commercial uses to the south, east and west. It has 17 buildings.

The Port Hope property comprises of three distinct parcels, two of which are vacant. The improved parcel is used for government office uses and storage.

Today’s Northumberland will update as details become available.
