Paramedics Honoured at Northumberland County Council

In City Hall

By Cecilia Nasmith/Today’s Northumberland
Northumberland County council took its turn, at its October meeting, to recognize the long service of two Northumberland Paramedics.

Warden Brian Ostrander noted that Trevor Mackey and Kelly Westerman had recently received the Governor General’s Exemplary Service Medal recognizing men and women dedicated to preserving Canada’s public safety. Recipients must have 20 years of service, Ostrander said, at least 10 of them on the front lines.

Mackie is an operational superintendent, working as a driver, trainer, oxygen and conveyancer tester.

And he is also an active participant in his community through such activities as Habitat For Humanity builds.

Westerman is a primary care paramedic, who wend above and beyond by donating a portion of her liver to someone on the organ-donor registry who was not even known to her.

“You give the paramedic service your very best,” Ostrander said.

“Through your work, you make a significant difference to the paramedic profession and to your community.”
