Cobourg Police Look at Auto-Theft-Prevention Initiative

In Local

A partnership with Equite Association is in the works that may put a vehicle at the disposal of the Cobourg Police Service for the low, low price of $1 a month.

This is just one of the perks that could accrue under the terms of the memorandum of understanding that would establish the partnership – one of similar partnerships this insurance company is seeking with police services across the province in service of a collaborative approach to combating car theft.

They are also seeking partnerships on a wider scale that could further this aim – for example, with car dealerships.

And while automobile thefts are not the problem locally that they have been in larger cities, Chief Paul VandeGraaf told the October Cobourg Police Services Board meeting, the problem is growing in this community.

And then, there’s the opportunity to lease a vehicle from Equite for $1 a month.

VandeGraaf said it would be used in covert operations.
