Video – 17th Annual Walk A Mile Raises Thousands for Gender-Based Violence

In Local

The 17th annual Cornerstone Family Violence Prevention Centre’s Walk A Mile! was a huge success on Saturday, October 5, 2024 in downtown Cobourg.

It was a sea of red high-heel shoes walking through the annual Harvest Festival at 11 a.m. as the walkers lead by the Cobourg Police Pipes and Drums started at the Cobourg Police station on King Street and walked to Division Street at back.

Donning his red shoes for the walk, a smiling Northumberland County Warden Brian Ostrander said the shoes were “uncomfortable, but I think they’re supposed too.”

“Anytime we can come together for a community and support a cause like Cornerstone or any of our shelters across Northumberland it’s a good day.”

Last year Cornerstone provided service to almost 2,000 women, children and youth including shelter, counseling, housing.

Over the past 16 years Walk A Mile has raised over $553,000 to help local families.

The Lions Club of Cobourg provided breakfast and Starbucks Cobourg provided coffee for walkers.

Final numbers haven’t been provided.
