Video – Some Anglers Venture Out Onto the Break-Wall in Port Hope

In Local

With the salmon season closed until mid-October in downtown Port Hope a lot of anglers were at the entrance to Port Hope Harbour and the Ganaraska River on Sunday, September 8, 2024.

A number of people and families walked over a number of boulders used as a break-wall to get to the entrance to fish.

In the late afternoon the winds picked up and the waves hit the break-wall with such force the spray and seaweed broke over the boulders as people and young children tried to navigate.

At the entrance to the west break-wall a sign says, “WARNING – Access beyond this point is unsafe.  Rocks are uneven and can be slippery – NOT FOR PUBLIC USE.”

On the east break-wall a family with young children went out to take a family photo before returning to shore.
