Town of Cobourg Economic Development Department Unveils Fall 2024 Programming

The Town of Cobourg Economic Development department has unveiled dynamic and insightful programs, seminars and workshops coming in the fall of 2024.

Aspiring entrepreneurs, seasoned business professionals, and anyone seeking to elevate their business will benefit from the following series, curated to equip participants with the tools they need to succeed in today’s rapidly evolving business landscape. Sessions are hosted by industry professionals and thought leaders and will take place at the Venture13 Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre.

Skilled Trades Career Day:In collaboration with the Province of Ontario, Level Up! And Skills Trades Ontario the economic development team is pleased to host Level Up! in Cobourg. Level Up! is a series of dynamic, multi-day career fairs that bring together the best in skilled trades professionals across industry organizations, post-secondary institutions, businesses, associations and more. Students in grades 7 to 12 can learn about Ontario’s 140+ trades through interactive exhibitions and hands-on activities, while hearing directly from tradespeople and local employers about life-changing career opportunities.

Succession Planning and Mergers and Acquisitions:In collaboration with RBC Financial Group, Cobourg is the first stop in a three-community session that will provide an informative event for business owners, which includes an economic update that can help you navigate the near-term economic environment. A member of the Mid-Market Mergers and Acquisitions team will then discuss preparing for the sale of your business, followed by a conversation about tax considerations. Guest speakers include: Carrie Freestone; Economist, Royal Bank of Canada; Brandon Beadow, CFA; Director, RBC Mid-Market Mergers and Acquisitions (M&A); and Sarah Netley, MAcc, MTax, TEP, CPA, CA; Partner, Baker Tilly KDN

Post-Secondary Spotlight Series:This series features post-secondary programs and resources that are available for local companies to leverage industry research and/or hiring. In September the series will feature Ontario Tech University’s Brilliant Catalyst Program. Brilliant Catalyst’s mission is to inspire and empower the next generation of change makers by building a community of experts, entrepreneurs, advisors, and influencers to fuel innovative change. Seminar Title: Revenue Growth Series with Arnaud Raymond, Belden Canada |

Arnaud Raymond is the Engineering Manager of Belden Canada, and a long-term member of the Cobourg business community. In 2016 he started with Belden Inc. in Cobourg where he has held several positions including interim Plant Manager, Operations Manager and Engineering Manager.

Seminar Title: Revenue Growth Series with Dominique Sayers, B&D Liquidation and Auction Services | Date: October 9th, 2024, Time: 8:30 – 10:00am | Venue: Lecture Hall, Venture13 – 739 D’Arcy Street |

This event will feature Dominique (Buckler) Sayers, Director of Operations at B&D Liquidation and Auction Services. Dominique Sayers, a part owner of B&D Liquidation, grew up in Cobourg, where her parents opened the business in 1999. In late 2019, B&D Liquidation moved into a new location, expanding its product offerings. Dominique has also contributed to the growth of B&D’s social media accounts. In July, she opened a sister store called B&D Bins, which is expected to be a popular way of selling liquidation merchandise.

Cobourg’s Growth and Development Symposium: Building from last year’s Real Estate and Industry Event,Cobourg’s Growth and Development Symposium will provide a development update over the past year and a panel discussion among real estate and development professionals about leading growth and development trends. This symposium will prove to be a resourceful experience for anyone who is interested in Cobourg’s development trends and projects and learning about leading urban development trends among industry professionals.

The Manufacturing Conference:Cobourg Economic Development department is proud to support the NMA Manufacturing Conference, a premier event bringing together leaders in the manufacturing industry for a day of networking, learning, and collaboration. This year’s conference, held at the Cobourg Community Centre on Thursday, October 24th, will feature an international keynote speaker, Jeff Butler, and a dynamic Workforce Strategies panel discussion with two Ontario Manufacturers and Economic Development departments Cornwall and North Bay. With four outstanding workshops led by industry experts, a dedicated Swag Hour for the tradeshow, and exclusive networking opportunities.
