Video – Everyone Was a Winner at 16th Annual Strong Kids Duathlon in Cobourg

In Community, Local

Approximately 90 youths took part in the YMCA Northumberland’s Strong Kids Duathlon at the Centennial Pool on Charles Street in Cobourg on Thursday, August 22, 2024.

The Strong Kids Duathlon was started by YMCA Northumberland’s Jessica Fraser-Thomas, but CEO Eunice Kirkpatrick said there are many volunteers who help out during the event each year.

“Jessica is well connected to the community. She manages to rally all the volunteers and puts her heart and soul into this along with all the volunteers and event staff.”

Youths from age 3 up to 15-years-old took part in the event, first by starting off in the Centennial pool, then transitioning to running around Victoria Park before completing the event in front of the bandshell.

“It’s non-competitive, so everybody wins in the kids duathlon,” said Kirkpatrick.

“It’s a great night all around. Lots of fun and cheering. It’s all about having fun and getting families out, engaging in our communities and having a good time.”

Money raised from the event will be put towards supporting Mothers of Newborns program. This important program provides mothers and their babies with an easy and safe path toward wellness while creating a network of support during babies’ first year.
