Exclusive – Port Hope Fire Chief No Longer Working for the Municipality

In Local

Today’s Northumberland has learned that Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services Fire Chief Jeff Ogden is no longer working for the municipality.

Ogden was selected as Fire Chief on August 29, 2022.

At that same time, Jason Williams was hired as Director, Protective Services.

CAO David Smith said at the time that Ogden and Williams brought “strong leadership and expertise.”

The release announcing their positions said previously, the Director and Fire Chief positions were combined under one employee portfolio at the Municipality.

But added, “a recent organizational structure change has split this position to create a dedicated Fire Chief of Port Hope Fire and Emergency Services, which is a division of the Protective Services Department.”

Ogden had been the Deputy Fire Chief for the Municipality in January 2021 and was recently working as the Acting Fire Chief during this transition time. He has been a member of a municipal fire service since 1995 and has held the positions of Captain, Fire Investigator, Fire Prevention, Training Officer, Interim Fire Chief and Deputy Fire Chief. Ogden had a wealth of knowledge completing the Dalhousie Fire Service Leadership Certificate, Fire Investigator, Fire Prevention and Inspection and Community

Emergency Management Certification, amongst many other fire service training programs.

Reaching out to the Municipality of Port Hope, they had no comment, but stated more information would be released on Tuesday, July 9, 2024.
