The community is in shock after three people were killed in a tragic collision on Thursday, March 28, 2024 north of Cobourg.

At approximately 11:30 p.m. emergency services including Northumberland OPP, Northumberland County Paramedics, Hamilton Township Fire Department and Alnwick/Haldimand Township Fire Department responded to the area of County Road 45 near Dunbar Road.

Debris littered the roadway after a head-on collision took place on the roadway.

One vehicle came to rest on the roadway and another was in the west ditch.

At least two people had to be extricated from their vehicles.

The drivers of both vehicles and a passenger were confirmed deceased. Two other passengers were transferred to hospitals with non-life-threatening injuries.

County Road 45 was closed for several hours between County Road 22 and Beagle Club Road for the investigation.

At the scene of the collision on Friday, green marks can been seen on the road from OPP investigators and a memorial with a number of flowers and a chocolate Easter bunny have been placed on the west side of the road.

A friend of one of the victims has started a GoFundMe for the family.

Brittany Mitchell is the organizer of the GoFundMe and writes that Chris Lount was 23-years-old.

“Heaven gained an angel tonight,” wrote Mitchell about her friend.

“Christopher Andrew Lount was coming into his 24th year with a love of cars, fishing, cats, family and friends. He will be remembered for eternity by his mother Deborah Pusey, father Samuel Lount, brother Michael Lount and sister Olivia Lount, as well as his nieces and nephews.”

Mitchell said that she created the GoFundMe so the family, “can create a beautiful ceremony for their beloved son and brother.”

“They didn’t deserve this at all, they deserve the world and it was taken right from underneath them in an instant.”

The OPP is requesting that if anyone was in the area during the timeframe of the collision and has any information, dash cam or surveillance footage that may assist investigators, to please call Northumberland OPP at 1-888-310-1122 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477).
