Update – Video – Investigators Determine Cause of Garage Fire in Cobourg

Investigators with the Office of the Fire Marshal have determined a fire that destroyed a garage in Cobourg has been deemed accidental.

Shortly after 11 p.m. on Wednesday, March 20, 2024 Cobourg Fire Department were dispatched to a Nickerson Drive address for a garage fire.

Upon arrival the garage was engulfed in flames.

Firefighters quickly extinguished the flames, but the garage was destroyed.

A home near the garage suffered minimal damage.

Two investigators with the Office of the Fire Marshal along with Cobourg Fire Department spent Thursday trying to determine the cause of the fire.

Deputy Fire Chief Kevin Ashfield said the case was determined to be improperly discarded smoking material.
