In Editor Choice, Local, Police Blotter

It was a busy day on the roads and highways in Northumberland County as blinding snow brought Highway 401 almost to a halt in some areas on Thursday, February 15, 2024.

With the anticipated bad weather it seemed some drivers weren’t prepared.

Along Highway 401 between Port Hope and Grafton there were numerous collisions including vehicles and transports.

Every fire department in Northumberland County responded to at least one collision throughout the afternoon.

Along the lakeshore, fire departments responded to several collision along Highway 401.

The westbound lanes between Cobourg and Port Hope were littered with vehicles that went into the ditch or spun out.

Westbound traffic was backed up to the Nagle Road overpass. Drivers coming upon the slower traffic headed for the ditch or spun out to avoid colliding with other vehicles.

A tractor trailer jack-knifed on the highway while another transport landed on its side in the ditch.

Other vehicles and transports were involved, but only one person was transported to hospital to be checked out.

In all the collisions throughout the afternoon, there are believed to be no serious injuries.
